Business networking site LinkedIn totaled up the 10 most overused buzzwords on their users' profiles. While it varies from country to country, the ten most overused bullet points in LinkedIn profiles in the US include:
1. Extensive experience
2. Innovative
3. Motivated
4. Results-oriented
5. Dynamic
6. Proven track record
7. Team player
8. Fast-paced
9. Problem solver
10. Entrepreneurial
Instead of using trite, bullet point phrases, LinkedIn recommends being more specific and noting your actual accomplishments in previous jobs. So, instead of saying "extensive experience", say you have "eight to ten years of experience" and that you "increased sales by 300 percent".
The last thing you want to appear like to your future employer is a resume writing drone—unless of course that's your target market. At The Savvy Networker blog, they assembled a list of the worst canned phrases in resume building:
* Results-oriented professional
* Cross-functional teams
* More than [x] years of progressively responsible experience
* Superior (or excellent) communication skills
* Strong work ethic
* Met or exceeded expectations
* Proven track record of success
* Works well with all levels of staff
* Team player
* Bottom-line orientation
